First Event Winner Announced
The first of many of the Wrexham Poker Society's events started as a £3.50 No Limit Texas Hold 'Em Freezeout Bounty Tournament, £2.50 was to be put into the prize pool and each member had a £1.00 bounty on there head, all six members turned up for the event, showing that they were all eager to play the great game of poker.
The event started off quite slow, with chips going back and to across the felt, then suddenly we all witnessed the first casualty in the tournament, the hand started as a three way confrontation between myself, Johnny Griffiths and Lee Griffiths, after the table folded around to me, I limped in late position with Q-7 suited, Johnny limped on the small blind with J-7 off suit and Lee checked the big blind with A-J suited. The flop come down 7-7-8 with two hearts, giving myself and Johnny trips and Lee the nut flush draw. As Johnny was low in chips he decided to play it safe and go all-in, after a short deliberation Lee called, leaving me with a difficult decision. After about 10 minutes thinking if I was ahead or not, I decided to fold my flopped set. The cards went on there backs and the turn came a heart giving Lee his nut flush, Johnny still had hope for a full house on the river, however, no miracle card came knocking Johnny out in 6th place... Unlucky Johnny!!!
The next casualty in the tournament was Gemma Jones when she got dealt AK on the small blind, after the table folded around to me on the button I decided to stick in a raise with K-9 off suit, Gemma called leaving herself with only $400 in chips, the flop came down J-Q-X, Gemma checked, I checked, the turn came a 9, Gemma checked and I bet her all-in, after a little hesitation she decided to risk it all on a gutshot straight draw and two over cards, the river came a blank knocking Gemma out in 5th place.
The next to feel the grunt of the Poker Gods was Sean Griffiths who after a long stretch of raggy hand got dealt an A-3 off suit first to act, he decided to throw it all in as the table was now only four handed, Anna Steen who was to act immediately after Sean looked down and saw the mighty Pocket Rockets, giving her an easy decision. Everyone else folded, and the cards went on there backs. No miracle cards came for Sean knocking him out in 4th Place.
It was now the bubble, and play started to get very tough, however, it was Anna who was next to be eliminated from the tournament, earlier in the game there was a blind battle between Lee and Anna when Lee raised from the small blind with AK only to see an all-in push from Anna on the big blind, he eventually decided to fold, later finding out that Anna pushed all in with the exact same hand, Lee vowed never to fold such a strong hand heads up again, and he wasnt going to break that vow, he got dealt A-Q on the small blind and raised Anna's big blind, Anna then re-raised all-in on the Big Blind with A-3 suited, Lee called, Anna missed the flop, but there was a little hope on the turn when she picked up the nut flush draw, however, with a blank on the river, it was Anna who went out in 3rd Place.
The heads up match between myself and Lee, started off quite slow, I doubled up my stack early on making us roughly even, however, thats when I got dealt K-9 off suit on the big blind, Lee limped from the small blind and I checked, the flop come down king high and I decided to push all-in, Lee instantly called showing down K-10, the turn came a blank, and the river came another King adding insult to injury.
This declared our first Wrexham Poker Society event winner as Lee Griffiths, well done Lee!!!
